Separating Facts from Fiction:
Contrary to what you may read, the only permanent hair removal method approved by the FDA and the AMA (American Medical Association) is ELECTROLYSIS because it is the only method, that after regular treatments, kills the hair follicle. However, it is not always the best, most effective way to remove hair.
Other forms of hair removal: Laser, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), the enzyme Trypsin (marketed under the name Epilar) only damage, stunt, retard or slow the follicles’ ability to re-grow hair resulting in permanent hair reduction. These methods can eliminate large areas of hair quickly, making a permanent solution more achievable.
All methods of hair removal have pros and cons. An individual evaluation is needed to determine the best method of permanently removing hair. Different body chemistry, skin and hair types require a personalized treatment plan to achieve permanent, long-lasting results. During your consultation, you will be advised as to the best method for you; IPL, Electrolysis, Epilar, or all three.
In most cases no one method alone will meet your expectations when seeking hair removal. That’s why at It’s Permanent, we use the latest and most modern IPL, Clarion by Novallis, in addition to professional electrolysis, and Epilar to ensure a successful outcome for all our clients.
Often for female clients with excessive facial and body hair, hormone evaluations will be ordered to rule out or diagnose underlying hormonal or other medical problems associated with excessive hair growth.
During your consultation, we will recommend a complete treatment plan to provide you with the best possible result.
Permanent Hair Removal & Reduction Methods
Temporary hair removal which removes the hair from the root. Results will last 2-8 weeks. Almost any area of the body can be waxed. However, waxing the face can actually stimulate the follicle resulting in more hair growth.
Epilar can be added after waxing. Epilar contains an enzyme that helps break down hair-growing cells within the follicle resulting in extended, diminished, re-growth. Epilar can be used on all hair colors, but works best for fine, vellous hair. Not as effective as electrolysis or IPL, but more effective than waxing alone. Epilar is great for that very fine “peach fuzz” on the face.
FDA Approved for permanent hair removal, a procedure in which individual follicles are destroyed with chemical or heat energy. The hair is then removed with tweezers. Once the follicle is destroyed, it can never re-produce hair. Electrolysis can only be performed by a Licensed Electrologist.
Electrolysis works on ALL hair and skin colors and is great for small areas that can’t be treated with IPL like ears, eyebrows, and for white blonde, red, or gray hair. It is also a great way to maintain smooth, hair-free skin after IPL.
FDA Approved for permanent hair reduction. A procedure in which light energy at specific wavelengths targets melanin in the hair shaft and travels to the follicle. The heat damages the follicle and impairs its ability to reproduce hair. Some hair will never re-grow, some will re-grow at a much slower rate and some will re-grow finer and thinner resulting in permanent hair reduction. Perfect for large areas like your back, legs, bikini, underarms, etc. With each treatment you can expect a 20%-30% reduction in hair.
